Coffee Tables
Coffee tables allow your full creativity to flow as you don't have so many design constraints as with say dining tables and chairs. Acorn Furniture will help you turn your ideas to reality adding inspiration and wood knowledge as required.
Marble Coffee Tables
This commission was made using the customer's own oak tree that had blown down. A pair of coffee tables was crafted to display two very different pieces of Indian marble; one black octagon inlaid with the Taj Mahal and one translucent white pie-crust shape inlaid with blue flowers. Lights were fitted under the marble of the white one to highlight the flowers. The colours on the inlay of the black marble were beautifully enhanced by the colour of the oak.
The Dragon Table
The Dragon Table was commissioned to be small, round, as heavy as possible and have a drawer that opened both ways. And it was to have a dragon inlaid in the top. The top and drawer are made from pear wood and the plinth is cherry. The dragon is inlaid with glass beads and coloured resin.
Pear Wood Tables
This is a pair of pear wood tables! Note how the oil gives a greater depth to the colour of the wood, which is more obvious in pear than other timber. As with virtually all work produced by Acorn Furniture, these tables were not stained.
Waney or Natural Edged Coffee Tables in Oak
A variety of coffee tables showing how the natural edge can be used in different ways.
Coffee or Bedside Table in Oak
Just to show that we can use straight lines when needed!
Coffee Table in Elm
Nick was approached to repair the wood and remake this coffee table. It had originally been made from beautiful burr elm but just put together with screws through the top into the legs. Nick repaired the tabletop and used mortice and tenon joints to secure the legs, leaving an aesthetically pleasing table.
Stacking Waney Edged Coffee Tables
The brief was to make three waney-edged coffee tables that would stack. Designing table legs that complement waney-edged tabletops can often pose a challenge. What was more difficult here was designing legs that would look good and stack! Both Nick and the customer were delighted with the finished result!
