Environmental Policy
The aspect of this sustainability policy of which I am most proud is Acorn Furniture's use of timber sourced from local trees.
- British trees produce beautiful and seriously under-appreciated timber
- Acorn Furniture's usual practice of using timber from trees that were being felled anyway, is more environmentally friendly than using timber with any number of certificates. Timber from forests certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is often shipped vast distances, which cannot be good for the environment. Much of the timber used by Acorn Furniture would otherwise be wasted or, at best, cut into firewood.
Our Environmental Sustainability Policy
Acorn Furniture ensures every aspect of its activities is conducted in accordance with sound environmental practices.
- A responsible, thoughtful and sensible approach to minimise our impact on the planet and its resources
- Recycling the whole of the tree through the creation of unique furniture and woodcarvings or for use as firewood or chip wood
- Using local trees that were not necessarily grown for timber but have been felled due to tree surgery work
- Reusing and recycling all resources wherever practical
- Careful planning of travel to minimise miles driven for all activities
- Investing in appropriate vehicles, machinery and tools, which are adequate to the task and optimise the life of the asset in line with our Health and Safety Policy.
- Being careful never to burn plastics because of the danger of creating dioxins.
Acorn Furniture aims to foster among its staff, suppliers, customers and communities local to its operations an understanding of environmental issues in the context of its business. Our collective task is to ensure we continually improve the environmental impact of our total global activities.
By this policy, Acorn Furniture recognises its responsibility towards the protection of the environment, and issues this statement as a commitment of both management and employees to minimising the environmental impact of its operations.
